Wellness in the Form of a Community

by: Jennifer Rowe, Breathe in Yoga

The consequence of lost connection between women has been a detriment to our strength, safety, expression, and femininity; hindering our growth, the support we receive transitioning into motherhood, and our connection to self, others, and nature. Women were seen as misunderstood threats, labeled as witches, or other fantastical expressions of the independent, in-tune woman. Women became banned from gathering without a man present. The boundaries crossed. The body of the woman was sacrificed to dim the woman inside. The consequence of lost connection between women has been a detriment to our strength, safety, expression, and femininity; the boundaries crossed proves there is power in sisterhood. The power of the divine energy we can harness when we gather - when we talk, share, laugh, teach, dance, and, most importantly, when we love.

Our lives are fast-paced, demanding, and schedule-driven. It challenges the energy and hormone cycle of a female body. We lack support and understanding from friends, co-workers, partners, and family. Our relationships, the way we relate to others, suffers or grows with discomfort or distance. We carry the burden as a weight, a blame, a sacrifice, as we continue to take on more and more expectations. We justify the overwhelm and lack of space, promising to get more done tomorrow, going to bed drained every night, and feeling defeated by the morning. The overwhelm felt by the nervous system is stored in our joints, muscles, fascia, organs, and tissues, until even a small amount of overwhelm sends our nervous system into stress mode – survival mode, or fight-or-flight mode. The more this state compounds, the less time and space we have between nervous system flare-ups. Each flare-up affecting our hormones, brain capacity, and bodily functions, including organ functions.

The Embodied Wellness: Blooming Within circle is a community created because of the understanding that women need space and permission to nourish deeply and offer ourselves rest. The community was created to bring the focus back to thriving and balance. We counterbalance the busy life and the demanding world by slowing down and being mindful about intent, presence and awareness in each moment – living yoga. As life has many layers that feel complex, sometimes fragmented, but, also, work together, so do our bodies. In yoga, the koshas, recognize our individual layers that operate on their own, but, also, in connection with the other layers. The exist individually, but, also, cannot exist without the others. Attention can be brought to each layer with time, space, and support. Together, we give ourselves permission to get to know ourselves and nourish deeply. We, also, give permission to our fellow women to get to know themselves and nourish themselves deeply. This community is one that will encourage each other to be who they are that day and in that moment; let what is going to happen, and to allow each other to become what each soul is meant to bloom into. We create containers to feel safety, separation, or feelings of being held and supported. The automatic act is one of compassion and an unintentional way we love ourselves. The Embodied Wellness: Blooming Within circle is a community created to be a container of support, love, and compassion.
